On a recent trip to Ireland I was given the opportunity to produce a piece of work. During this time I learned about the environmental debate the country was having over the Burrens. The Burrens are raw limestone covered mountains that are slowly being withered down by the weather and have been so for hundreds of years. The debate is whether the Irish Government should replant trees on the mountains or not. For this piece I interviewed a local artist and learned how to knit as well as naturally dye yarn. I purchased local yarn to create this project; using the natural pattern of the landscape I recreated a meter by meter square of the Burren landscape to full scale. Natural dyes and the use of certain knitting and crocheting techniques create this simulated Burren pattern. Once complete i brought the small blanket out and laid it over the stones.
